My Child lives off Jet Fuel!!

Our daughter has been so full of energy it's crazy...or maybe it's that I have such a lack of energy. On Sunday, we get home a bit later then her usual nap and she refuses to sleep. I managed 10 minutes of shut eye on the couch and wake to find her pulling my hair with a huge smile (yes it was sweet.. But people especially mommies need to sleep!!!!) I commented out loud that she must be getting jet fuel for energy

Both Andy and I were laying like dead people around the family room Sunday afternoon and she was at it and had been at it all morning and afternoon with no nap and an early rise.. When does this end!

STOP if you don't have a positive comment, I don't think I can bare to hear it's going to be 5 more years of this.

Bright side, with this next baby that's growing inside, I will LOVE those immobile months and I don't think I will encourage this next one to walk at all...:D

our solution was to clearly define times when we were responsible for keeping the baby entertained because this does sometimes last for a while. ours couldn't breastfeed for whatever reason, so that wasn't a problem -- either of us could feed him so you may have to address that part differently but it made a huge difference. when i had to go to work, i never had to get up or mess with the baby. my wife got the weekends off.

it was a good deal, i strongly recommend it.

my girls are about the same age difference as yours will be... and juliana stopped napping shortly after i got pregnant... since napping is what i consider mandatory for a pregnant mom, i used to completely kid-proof and gate off the living room and snooze on the couch while she played. yes, there were some occasional hair pulling, but you do what you can do, right?

that is a great idea, Brent. We've already agreed I'm off diaper duty and waking up during the weekend. It's finding a balance between entertaining her but that be realistically all the time

Laura- I think I will have to find a solution similar to that. You do what you can, I like that

We just used a Sleepy-Time Hookah we purchased at Baby Gap . . . Do you want to borrow it?

It doubles as a humidifier . . .

tim- yah, sounds kinda've neat

Yea, but if you don't want something ILLEGAL (Mr. Sleepy Time Hookah) just go ahead grab some Ny-Quil, it totally does the trick too!

For our Jet Fuel boy - around age 2...
We prepared a bowl of cereal (dry) & put it at the place where he ate; we put a small cup of milk in the refrigerator that he could access & "make" his own soup.

We put his favorite DVD/VCR tape in, so all he had to do was turn on the TV (cake) & press play (also cake.)

He learned to do all of this so Joni could sleep & try to recover during the pregnancy with Alyse. 20-24 months.

And it was much easier than training a dog.

this post made me laugh a lot. my girls were always quiet and didn't cry, so i can't really relate. sorry.

p.s. don't speak to mindy about this. she may have a different take. ;>)

Tim- I have to reverse my prior comment. My husband has enlightened me on your device and I think I'll pass.

Scoey-d: I don't know if I trust morgan w/ a full glass of milk yet, but will have to try the dry cereal and tv remote

Jason- I WILL be talking w/ mindy

oh erica- i feel your tired eyes right now. this is a busy , busy time and well....all i can say is this- when she does sleep- whenever that is you get your a** in bed. the dishes will always be there, the laundry, the whatever it is that you think you should be doing, trust me when she sleeps you sleep and if she doesn't sleep in the daytime anymore a strongly established quiet time with books on her bed might be helpful with a gate at her door cause her room is prolly totally childproofed and the trade off that brent mentioned i highly recommend.

Oh...you actually wanted advice! Alex was easy, I did exactly what Scoey did, worked like a charm...I can still hear the songs from Hercules ringing in my ears! I also, like Noel suggested, penned her up & took naps on the couch while she played in her pen. I still have it, it's awesome if you want to check it out. JT however, is a different story. He loves to help me with everything which is is very cool, however, lately it is with cooking. I'm afraid if left on his own he would want to cook up some breakfast or slice some oranges...with the meat cleaver. Anything that screams "DO NOT TOUCH" he wants to check out! I learned how to truly take Power Naps & how to sleep with one eye open. I cheated though, because I have an awesome daughter who loves to help!

Noel-thanks for the reassurance. She still sleeping but sometimes it's unpredictable. I like the baby gate idea and 'quite time'
chemane- Morgan likes to help to, she just not able to do alot cause of her age and fine motor skills. She follows simple directions. like bring me your book. She does like being in the kitchen just right in front of my every step! She goes for every DO NOT TOUCH. thanks for all the advice guys. I know there is light at the end of this tunnel!

Okay . . . but just be warned we like to kick off our council meetings with quick turn on the Hookah . . .

Ahhh Plucky...that explains why lunch is always a priority at the council meetings.

This conversation has to be one of the funniest in blog-land for quite some time. I think somebody should confiscate the sleepy-time hooka from plucky. And jaybird--telling Erica NOT to talk to mindy about it is a guarantee that she will ask mindy. Even as adults we don't listen! :) Ha ha!
